How wonderful! I love it when kids (and adults too) write a real letter instead of e-mailing. Nothing beats the feeling of an envelope in your hand and the sight of the stamp (especially when it's from overseas) and personal handwriting of the sender!!!

Books We Have Read or Are Reading

* Abbey Hayes Books (MG has read the first 5)

* The Keyholders Series (MG has read all 4... waiting for more)

* Tiara Club Books (MG read most of it and only she knows which ones she has missed!)

*Ramona Quimby (MG has only read the first one but wants to read the others -- I loved these when I was younger)

* Ivy and Bean (MG has read 1-3 and likes it)

* Ruby Lu (it's about a girl that tries to speak Chinese so why not! MG likes Ruby's sense of humor)

*Dragon Slayer Academy ( we are looking for #19 now)

*Obi, Gerbil on the Loose

*Magic Tree House (waiting for the new book)

* Three Tales of My Father's Dragon (we finished that a month ago and they loved it!)

* Disney Fairies (MG loves this series right now and has been zipping through them 1 a day this summer)

*Katie Kazoo Series

* She's finally into Junie B. Jones (but I'm not a fan of the

books)

*Amber Brown (about a 9 year old girl who is pretty spunky and faces everyday issues... most MG understands, others she questions -- like divorce)

*The Fairy Chronicles (she's reading through these pretty quickly and enjoys the adventures in each book)

**A Series of Unfortunate Events (I read 1 and 2 to all 3 then stopped for a bit. MG picked up number 3 and has not stopped reading! She's now on number 8 as of 12/3/11) -- as of January 2012, she finished the entire series!

Now (2/2012) she's reading a new series -- Pixie Tricks by Tracey West

5/20/2012 MG read The Genius Files - Never say genius by Dan Gutman and liked it (is looking for the other books to read)

MD reading most of the Amelia Bedilia Series and loving them! You should hear him laugh while reading!

How to Train Your Dragon Book 1 (I did not like this book. I didn't like the words used. Lots of put downs and insults. So half way through the book I told the children I could not read anymore and stopped. We returned the book the next day.)

Henry Huggins

Henry Huggins and the Paper Route -- very sweet that Ramona followed Henry around during his paper route

Henry Huggins and the Club House -- boys will be boys (poor Beezus!)

Henry and Ribsy -- they love the part where Henry wrestle a chinook salmon with his bare hands!

Ribsy - poor Ribsy got lost and what an adventure we went on

The BFG (I had to down play a lot of the "children being eaten" by the giants thing but they enjoyed this book!)

The Witches (this was a disturbing book but they loved it because I didn't make it so scary!)

Freddy to the Rescue -- a hamster that communicates via a computer keyboard? Well, they liked it... me? Not so much!

Peter Nimble and His Fantastic Eyes by Jonathan Auxier (This was a great book! I loved that the main character had to work hard at discovering his true self. )
